Golf Tourney Scheduled for August 24

The 4th Degree Charity Golf Tournament will be at Mid Rivers Golf Links in St Peters, MO on 24 August, 2007.

The format is a 4-man scramble with a shotgun start at 12:30; price includes a lunch, cart, green fees, and cold drinks all day long with a B-B-Que dinner after you finish playing. We will have the putting contest, attendance prizes, raffle prizes, trophies in 3 flights, and new this year, We Will Have A hole In One Prize of a $20,000.00 Automobile and other Hole Prizes of Premium Golf Equipment, Choice of Premium Electronics, Airline Tickets or Cruise Package for Two.

4th Degree Plans Night Out @ Rascals Game

The 4th Degree Assembly is having its Night at the Ball Game on Thursday June 21, 2007 at T R Hughes Ballpark.

Final Call for Tartan Days Security Force

If you are going to be working security this weekend at the Tartan Days festival please shoot me an e-mail in the next day or two with what shifts you want to work and we can start to fill out the shifts. Whatever we can’t fill by Wednesday we will turn over to our partner group but that also means money lost for the council (they are going to be paying us $10 an hour to work this so it is good money for a fundraiser).

Once again the Knights will be doing a fish and chicken fry for the employees of Client Services Inc. in St. Charles.

Council to Provide Security for Tartan Days Festival

We have been approached by a group putting on a festival down at Frontier Park in St. Charles to work security for their event on March 30-April 1.

All we would be responsible for is to ensure that patrons coming into the park, or those leaving the park, don’t have beer with them. They are allowed to have beer only on the park grounds and there are 5 entry points that we have been asked to staff. The council can potentially make over $1,000 for the entire weekend but I don’t want to commit until I have an idea of how many guys would be willing to work. We need at least one person per gate for the weekend but would like to get 7 people for the 5 gates for each shift. Shifts will be broken up into two hour increments. This could be a great fundraiser for the council but again, we won’t commit unless we know we can staff a large part of it. We have a potential partner to fill in the gaps that we can’t staff, but anything they fill will mean money lost for the council. This could be a good way to offset costs of the upcoming softball season as the council no longer can afford to pay for league fees. If we get enough softball players we will consider using a portion of the proceeds to help subsidize the softball fees.

You don’t have to commit to an exact shift, but the times that we need workers for are listed below. If you think you can work a portion of the weekend just let me know so we can get an idea of participation levels.

FYI, this is a Scottish festival so it should be a good time if you want to work the event and bring the family down to see the festival. We need to give them an answer probably by the end of this week so let me know if you think you would be able to help out or not.

Easter Carnival Nearing

Easter is coming quick! I need your help! I am asking for yourassistance, once again, with the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Please startlooking at your schedules to determine your availability.

I will needpeople to sell tickets at the end of mass on the following dates,March 31st and April 1st. Also, I will need help with all aspects ofthe hunt on April 7th. Free Throw Contest Draws Record Crowd

On Friday January 19th the annual Free Throw Contest was held at the Sts. Joachim and Ann gymnasium. We had 60 children attend the event for kids ages 10-14. This is the largest crowd we have had in all of the 10 years that I have been the chair person of the event. However, I can take none of the credit for the increase in the crowd size. A huge thank you goes to brother Tom Rothermich and to Dennis Henderson who publicized the event through the J& A basket ball teams. I believe that a good time was had by all of the kids that attended. A special thank also goes out to all of the brothers that helped out with the event. Rich A., Dan B., John B., Rich S., Tom R., Kevin S., Barry Y., if I am missing someone else I apologize.

4th Degree Exemplification

The 4th Degree Exemplification will be at the St Louis Airport Marriott on Sat March 10, 2007. To be eligible you must be a member for 6 months or more, in good standing, and a 3rd Degree Knight. The cost is $70.00 and dress is black tuxedo. All applications must be read to the Assembly before they can be sent in for the Exemplification. The Assembly will meet on 1/16 and 2/19. Council Presents $4,600 to Care Service

The efforts of the October Trivia Knight were put to good use as members of the Harvester Council were able to present the Board of Directors for the Sts. Joachim and Ann Care Service with a check for $4,600 to help their efforts.

Members of the council presented to check to the board at its December board meeting, representing the council were Kevin Smith, John Breneman, Glenn Korando, and Rich Antrobus.

Thanks to all those who helped work the trivia knight, bought a table, purchased silent auction items, bought 50-50 tickets and helped make this even one of the biggest fund raisers of the year for the council.

No Hunger Holiday 2006 Sets New Mark

The 2006 version of No Hunger Holiday set a new mark in feeding nearly 1,500 families and in its 16th year fed its 50,000th individual, easily making it one of the largest single day food drives in the entire metro area.

Don't forget that Tuesday, Nov. 21 is No Hunger Holiday.
Once again the council has set a new record for meals, and will be giving out nearly 1,500 complete meals for families to cook in their homes and share with their family and friends for Thanksgiving.
If you haven't doanted your turkey yet make sure you bring one by this weekend or to the meeting on Monday evening. Volunteers are also welcome on Tuesday to help fill the boxes and complete other tasks that day.

The initial 2007 budget for the Harvester Knights of Columbus has been released and is avalible for review prior to discussion and voting at the November and December meetings.

The 2006 version of the Harvester Knights of Columbus Trivia Knight saw a slight decrease in the number of tables, but thanks to everyone who came out to play or volunteer, it appears that we will be able to make a donation to the Care Service for at least $4,000.

Trio of Big Events Slated for October

A trio of KofC related events are on tap for the month of October that members may be interested in participating in.

The council will host its annual Crazy Bowl for its members and friends on Oct. 21 at St. Charles Lanes. Once again the event will have a great silent auction, and the $15 per person cost includes 3 games of bowling, beer, soda, and snacks. Attendance prizes will also be awarded and items up for bid in the auction include an autographed Blues jersey, and loads of sports and TV related items. Four bowlers to a lane.

On Oct. 28, the council will host its annual Trivia Knight, with a portion of the proceeds this year earmarked to benefit the Care Service. Cost is $20 with tables of 8. Sign up now as tables will go fast and will be $200 the day of the event.

The O'Fallon Council #2269 will be hosting the 2006 Missouri Knights of Columbus Bowling Tournament on the weekends of October 28 - 29 and November 4 -5 at the O'Fallon Bowl.

Family Picnic Approaching

Just a quick reminder that Sept. the 9th is our scheduled Knightsfamily reunion/picnic.

We have the pavilion at the Saint Peters CityHall reserved the entire day. (It is the same pavilion the 4th degreeuses.) I figure a noon to when ever time table is convenient for all. Please bring the following items: BYOM, BYOB, a dish to share (yourchoice) and any outdoor games or activities you may have.

Martchink Surgery Goes Well

The First Surgery was Wednesday, this was the ablation part. This surgery is designed to “”Burn-Off”” the additional electrical connections or impulses that caused the heart to beat out of rhythm – top of heart beating at 188 beats per minute verse the bottom of the heart beating at 70 beats per minute.

To many chiefs and not enough Indians to carry the load.

The Second Surgery was Thursday afternoon - this was for the implant of a Pacemaker-Defibrillator.

Initially, we were under the impression that everything would be done at the same time first surgery took 4 hours 10 minutes to “”clean up”” the miss fires and other testing. The second was just under 3 hours, so I was on the table for a little over 7 hours.

There was some minor problems at first, but the Tech from Medtronic’s came in around 8.00PM Thursday Evening an made some adjustments in the Pacemaker-Defibrillator. He put a Modem over the Pacemaker-Defibrillator and made the necessary adjustments. In a couple of weeks I get a device to attaché to the bedroom phone that will monitor the heart at night or whenever I get within 12 feet,

I have to wear a sling on my left arm for the next few weeks, current plans are back to driving and other activities in 3 weeks.

Prayers Needed for Clifton Family

It is very uncharacteristic for me to ask for anything; however, I was wondering if you could ask the knights to pray for my wife and sister and for support to the families (kids, siblings and parents).

My wife, Kathy Clifton, is in advanced stages of ovarian cancer and not doing well at all. My sister was recently told that her pancreatic cancer has spread to her liver and has been given 6-12 months.

Spaghetti Dinner Approaching

Don't forget that in place of the July meeting we are having a Spaghetti Dinner.

One of the main reasons for doing this dinner is becase it has been to long since we last did one and the director's decided that doing it on a meeting night might make it easier for those with families to attend along with their families.

We will have our meeting at 7 p.m. and it will be brief and we will shoot to start the spaghetti dinner at 7:30. The diner will also include a very short program that will include a little presentation on what the council does, so our families have a better idea of what we are doing while we are away from home, and also to present the Knight of the Year award.

Make sure to invite all of your family and other friends who might make good knights, they can even invite their families too.

Medical Updates on Members

Both Mike Thomas and Bob Sage are recovering nicely from recent procedures and wish to thank everyone in teh council for their thoughts and prayers.

Mike had a knee replacement operation done last month but is at home and on the road to recovery.

Bob, menawhile, had a serious of heart-related procedures done and while he still faces a few more in the next coming months he is doing much better.

Thanks again to everyone for keeping them in your thoughts and continue to pray for them as they heal.

Spaghetti Dinner Set for July 17 -- Everyone Welcome

It was decided at the June director’s meeting that we needed to do another spaghetti dinner since it has been way too long since our last one.
After some discussion of possible dates it was ultimately decided that we will hold the spaghetti dinner on July 17, which is the date for the July meeting. Families are encouraged to attend the event, which will get under way at 7:30 p.m. We will have a short (10-15 minute) program which will talk about what the Harvester Knight’s do as a council and we will also be presenting the Knight of the Year award at the dinner. If you have nominations for the KoY award you can bring them to the July director’s meeting. Please make sure you invite your family to this event. We will have a short business meeting at 6:45 to discuss any matters that need to be raised at the regular meeting and then adjourn to join our families for the spaghetti dinner at 7:30. All events will take place at the Cottleville KofC hall.
Please do your best to attend the meeting and please invite your wife or significant other and any other family members, this will be a family-friendly event. We have a First Degree scheduled for June but if you know of any possible future Knights that can’t make the June meeting the July spaghetti dinner would be an ideal time to invite them to have fellowship with the council and families.

Council T-Shirts Ordered

The council is in the process of ordering 40 t-shirts for the two teams playing in the state softball tournament, to be held June 24-25, teh shirts will cost $10 and even if you aren't a softball player you can get one by letting Dan Breneman or Kevin Smith know, thanks to Sue Young for helping out in getting the order fullfilled.

Bob Sage Back at Home

Bob Sage is back at home as of Sunday June 11, but he has to go back in to the hospital in a few weeks for some more procedures. Pease keep Bob and Rose in your prayers and feel free to give Bob a call at home to see how he is doing.

4th Degree Assembly Has Busy Sumer Scheduled

Our Assembly has many events planned for the next four months.

On Sunday June 18 we will have the Honor Guard at the Corpus Christi Procession at 6:30 beginning at St Peters Parish in St Charles.

Our June meeting, 6/20, will be a social gathering at St Charles Hall, while the 4th of July Parade in St Charles, St Peters Old Time Picnic and Parade on 7/15.

KofC Family night at TR Hughes ballpark in O’Fallon on 8/10 for a Rascals game with the Honor Guard presenting the Flag. Tickets for this are $6.50 each and you can get yours from Mike Narkawicz (636)978-6381.

We will have an Installation Dinner at Fr. Wm. Pezold Banquet Center on 8/11. Contact Don Allen (636)978-1006 or Harry Schellenger (636)441-5894 for reservations.

Bob Sage Update

Update on my Dad...he is still in the ICU but is doing much better.

The doctors took him off of the oxygen and the heart monitors and are still giving him antibiotics and inhalers to battle the pneumonia. He was able to get into regular clothes today (Sunday 5/14) and get up to take walks around ICU. They still don't know yet why he doesn't have much energy and he still has a test scheduled for Monday at Noon. Hopefully after the test or early Tuesday they'll release him to come home.

Thank you all for your prayers and well wishes, we've passed them onto Dad and he appreciates them all.

I will keep you posted on his progress.

Family Camp-out Canceled

Gentlemen,
It is with much regret, that this years camp-out has to be canceled! I have relatives coming in from out of town on that week end.

Unfortunately, I can not work my schedule to accommodate both. Family is the corner stone of the Knights and as with all families, family comes first. I hope to keep you abreast of any further activities I am planing.

Bob Sage Hospitalized

Brothers,Please pass the word along that we may keep Bob Sagein our prayers.
He went into the hospital Thursday with pneumonia. He is currrently still in ICU and they are runningseveral tests to see if he has any internal bleedingdue to him appearing anemic.
I have been asked to let you know that he is not readyfor visitors but they will keep us posted on hiscondition.Please keep the Sage family in your prayers!!!!!

Corr Returns from New Orleans

Denny Corr and wife Bard recently returned from a trip to New Orleans where work continues on homes that were devastated by hurricane Katrina.

The Corr's were part of a group assembled trough St. Joe Cottelville and part of the trip was subsidized by donation from the Harvester Knights of Columbus.

If anyone would be interested in forming a group fo Knights and others to head down for some time to spend in helping with the re-hab effort of the city, let Kevin Smith know.

Easter Carnival Smashing Success

I would like to extend my extreme gratitude to all of you, your wonderful family members and friends, which helped put on one of our most successful Easter Carnivals to date. With out the generous help provided by you, the event would be nonexistent!

Its down to the wire, our annual J&A Easter Carnival is just a few days away!

Special Fundraiser Scheduled, Help Needed

The Harvester Knights have been approached by officials at Clients Services Inc. in St. Charles to provide fish and chicken for its employee recognition lunch on Friday, April 14.
This has the potential to be a huge fund raiser for the council and we are asking for as many volunteers as possible to help cook and serve the meal. The first serving will take place at 11 a.m. with the last group taking their lunch at noon, so anyone that can work that day between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. would be greatly appreacited.

Easter Carnival Upcoming

A reminder that the Easter Carnival is upcoming, scheduled for April 8 at the school cafeteria. A reminder that not only do we still need prizes for the kids, but volunteers are needed to sell advnaced tickets for the event after Masses on April 1 and 2.
We are set for attendance prizes, the gum ball count and the raffle item. We could use bags of candy for the lollie pop tree, as long as Glenn Korando can receive them well before the event. If he can't get them at least 2 weeks before, the council will have to buy them. It's to difficult to set up on a moments notice, and he needs to know how many pops to mark.
If you can help out by selling tickets, getting candy or other prizes, please let Glenn know.

Late Dues Noticing Going Out

Reminder to those members who have yet to pay their 2006 dues, please get your dues to Gene Stark as soon as possible, as late notices will be sent and phone calls will have to start being made soon. Many of you may not be aware that Kendra Davis, wife of brother Knight Dan Davis passed away yesterday morning do to complications from breast cancer.

Please Keep Young's in Your Prayers

For those of you who haven't heard yet, please keep Barry and Sue Young in your prayers. The Young's home in Spencer Creek subdivision suffered a major fire on Thursday evening which destroyed the second level of their home (the level where their bedrooms, clothes, and other personal items were located). Thankfully no one was hurt in the fire and Barry, Sue, Thomas and Maddi all are OK. Also the Young's insurance company has stepped up and done a fabulous job finding them temporary housing at a local hotel until they can secure more short-term housing in an apartment while repairs are being done on their home, which the insurance company says could take as long as 12 weeks.
At this time Barry has said that the family is being accommodated by the insurance company and they were able to get replacement clothes and other essentials on Friday. But we ask that you still keep the entire Young family in your thoughts and prayers as they deal with aftermath of the home fire. Barry did want to pass on regards to everyone and thank all of the Brother Knights who have been calling to enquire about their well being and ask what assistance could be offered to them. He said he is very thankful for everyone's support and gives great thanks to God that no one in the family was hurt.
Let us give thanks to the Lord for the Young's safety and please keep them in your prayers over the upcoming months.

Free Throw Contest Winners Honored

The council had five different winners at its Free Throw Contest for boys and girls aged 10-14 in late January.
The group advanced to the District Free Throw contest where they were presented with trophies from Grand Knight Dan Breneman and Deputy Grand Knight Kevin Smith.
The five winners were:
Shelby Mueller in the 10 year-old girls division
Dustin Weber in the 10 year-old boys division
Jake Stumpf in the 11 year-old boys division
Emily Echele in the 11 year-old girls division
Elizabeth Knobbe in the 14 year-old girls division.
Congratulations to all the winners.
Unfortunately all the Council winners were unable to advance out of the district contest, with all of them having great showings and losing out by only 1 or 2 made free throws against their fellow shooters. Thanks again to all those who participated and we will see you all again at the gym next year.

4th Degree Exemplification Scheduled for April 1 -- NO JOKE!!

The 4th Degree Exemplification will be at the St Louis Airport Marriott Hotel at I-70 and Lambert Field on Saturday April 1, 2006. Any 3rd Degree member in good standing who has been a member for 6 months is eligible. The cost is $65.00 and includes the Degree, 4th Degree pin, a social baldric, certificate, and one banquet ticket. Additional banquet tickets are available for $31.00. There will be an information night at the Cottelville K of C Hall on March 8 at 7:00 pm. There will be a luncheon and entertainment for the ladies while the Exemplification is in progress. Your Form 4 and full payment need to be read and approved by the Assembly before the Exemplification, ( by the March 21 meeting at the latest). Harvester To Host 4th Degree Meeting for March

Harvester Council will be the host for the March 21,2006 4th Degree Assembly meeting and the clean up Council for the February 21, 2006 meeting. As the host, we will be responsible for providing the meat and deserts for the March meeting. As the clean up Council, we will collect the dinner money, pick up the trash, and wash the dishes at the February meeting. The Assembly will host the 4th Degree Exemplification on April 1, 2006 and is in need of help for that weekend. Any one who is a 4th Degree is asked to come to the February and March meetings and see if there is an area you would be interested in helping out. We will need people to set up on Friday, man the hospitality room, the rental room Saturday morning, and many other areas.

Council Member Heads to New Orleans for Aid Work

Harvester Knights of Columbus member Doug Helfrich spent part of his Christmas vacation helping Katrina victims in the New Orleans area. Doug was joined by his wife Stephanie and his two sons Patrick and Ryan.

Community Events Listed

In order to help promote and spread the word about various events in the community and that are fundrasiers for youth and family and friends of Knights we are updating the Yahoo Group to include a speial section in the "Calendar" area that will allow us to promote events that aren't directly for the Knights of Columbus.
This month there are two events that are included in the calendar for March. The Duchense High School booster club is holding a Texas Hold 'Em tournament on March 18 while Avalon Soccer Club will also be holding a Hold 'Em fundraiser tournament on Saturday March 13. Details for each event can be found on the Yahoo Group page.

Fundraiser Ideas Sought

The officers and directors are sending out an invite to all members of the council to come to the Feb. Directors meetings with ideas for possible fund raisers for the 2006 year. In the past we have had fish fries, trivia knights, poker knights, and a host of other activities to help supplement funds we get from UMB and Family Arena. We would like to explore some new and fresh ideas of ways we can raise significant money throughout the year, or at a one-time event. Please come to the Feb. meeting to help with the brainstorming ideas. If you can't make the meeting but have a few ideas you would like to throw out there for consideration make sure to let one of the officers or directors know.

Roses for Life Raises Money for Pro-Life Causes

Thanks to all those who worked the tables after masses this weekend for the Roses for Life. Deaton will have a final count on how much money we raised for the program that helps excepted mothers get through their pregancy within a few days.

Family Arena Events for Jan.

We have two Jan. events for the Family Arena. There is a SLU basketball game on Thursday Jan. 26, and a boxing event on Sat. Jan 14. If you are free and willing to work either event get in touch with Dave Meglio.

Don't forget we will have a First Degree at the Jan. meeting (Jan. 16) so if you have any potential Knights make sure to bring them to the meeting.

Council Remembers Past GK Lindewirth

Members of the Harvester Knights of Columbus ask for prayers and support of friends, family and brother Knights after the passing of past Grand Knight Ray Lindewirth.

Ray passed away at DePaul Medical Center on Wed. Dec. 14 after a series of complications including congestive heart failure and kidney problems.

The council was blessed to not only have Ray as one of its members, but were honored to have such a great Knight and friend as its leader as Grand Knight from 1997-98. Ray was also an active volunteer with the Sts. J&A Care Service.

Medical issues prevented Ray from being an active member in the council during his later years, but he remained tied in to the council by continuing to communicate with members and Grand Knights eventhough he may not have physically been at meetings.

Ray wasn't the most wealthiest member of the council but the richness he held in his heart and his desire and willingness to do whatever he could on behalf of the council or those in need set an example for all Brother Knights and mankind to strive for.

Funeral arrangements will be posted here as they become available. Until then, we ask that you pray for the Lindewirth family and the council in general as everyone deals with the loss of Ray and celebrates in the joy of God having given us such a great friend, leader, and admirable man.

I would like to take the time to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas! As we close out this very busy year I would like to thank each and every one of you for being a friend, a brother, and a good Knight.

I know that there are other things we all can be doing, but I have to tell you that I am overwhelmingly impressed with the turnouts that we've had for Tootsie Roll Drive; No Hunger Holiday; Breakfast With Santa; and Adopt a Family. You guys always seem to come through. For this I commend you one and all.

I want one more good showing from you if you can spare the time. Our worthy lector has announced that he is preparing a wonderful Christmas dinner immediately following our December Meeting. Let's celebrate another successful year together.

Once again you and your Ladies Auxiliary out did yourselves. A wonderful time was had by all! The men of the Harvester Knights of Columbus wish to Thank you for having us along for the ride. Although our turn out was low, the few that did attend had a great time. I wish to personally thank you and the ladies for all that you have done for me. By including our council in to your activities you have made my job all that much easier to manage. Again, Thank you!

2005 Adopt-A-Family Information

This year the Harvester Knights are adopting two families.

Family #443 is a family of four. The 15 year old son is on a Respirator. Their greatest need is for Distilled water since the Respirator requires about a gallon a day. Andrew also needs Prefolded Cloth Diapers from Wal-Mart and cannot wear long sleeves or turtlenecks. This family consists of mom, dad, daughter 16 and son 15.

Family #460 is a single parent family consisting of a mom and her 10 year old daughter.

Any additional gifts and/or food beyond what is on the boards are welcome. Cash donations will also be accepted and Michael’s wife will handle the shopping.

Gifts need to be dropped off at the Tobin house or given to Michael Tobin by December 4, 2005.

Gifts may be wrapped or Michael’s wife will wrap them. If wrapping the gift please attach a gift tag with the recipient’s name and the family number on it.

No Hunger Holiday Sets Records in 15th Year

Well No Hunger Holiday once again was pulled off with amazing success and the 2005 version, the 15th annual instalment of the event, set new records for meals provided (1,425) and indivduals served (more than 5,000).

Key to New Members: Ask Someone to Join

As we all know, membership in the Knights of Columbus and especially our council is something we should all take great pride in. I know I do. That is why it should be very easy to recommend joining our organization to others. Please think about this the next time you go to church or any other function when you meet fellow Catholic gentlemen, Don't be bashful, just ask them if they are Knight. If they say yes, invite them to our meeting. If they say no, ask them to join.

I realize that many of you would have a hard time explaining all the programs that we are involved in. That is why at our Nov. 21 meeting we are going to do something different. I am asking every member that is coming to the meeting to bring along a potential new member. What we are planning is to conduct a very short business meeting without the Program Directors reports. The business meeting should last about 15 minutes and then we will invite the prospects in for the Program Directors reports. Each director will explain what their program involves. This will cover all the programs so you don't have to attempt to explain them. Hopefully, after hearing about all of the great things the Knights of Columbus and our council does for the church and the community, the prospective new members will be ready to join!
Please, take advantage of this opportunity and do your part---ASK someone to come with you on Nov. 21. Better yet, offer to pick them up and bring them to the meeting. This will go a long way in showing this prospect that you really do want them.

Breakfast With Santa Scheduled Once Again

We have once again been asked to participate in this years Breakfast with Santa, along side the Cottleville Knights and there wonderful Ladies auxiliary. This year’s function has been scheduled for Saturday, December the 3^rd from 9:00am to noon. I have no further information at this time regarding assistance needed form our council members. I will stay in touch regarding these issues. In the mean time, plan to attend.
Bring your children, grandchildren and even if you don’t have children, please make an effort to show your comradery. Thanks for your time.

Thanks Goes Out to All UMB Worker

Once again, many THANKS to all who worked Riverport this year. Our last concert was October, 1. Fifty-seven (57) different people worked 114 shifts covering 22 concerts. We have grossed a total of $6,797 and we have contributed $250 to the Sts. Joachim & Ann Parish Retreats for Bible purchases.

The average earnings per concert was $309 (up from $250 last year) and the average earnings per volunteer was $60. Below are individuals who worked this year and the number of concerts each worked. Special thanks my Leads, Mark Parker, Kevin Gahagen, Bob Fusinatto, Mike Thomas, Barry Young, Kevin Smith, Cathie Arnold, Craig Lalumandier, Pierce Conley & Dan Breneman. Special Thanks to Parish Picnic Parking Lot Crew

Sts. Joachim and Ann Parishioners attending the annual Parish Picnic found parking a little bit easier this year. With the uninterrupted use of the Methodist parking lot (Thank You Church of the Good Shepard!) and direction from Harvester parking attendants, picnic patrons and other volunteers were able to find more parking close to the action. I want to thank each of you who assisted with parking, including many Knights who were members of other parishes. Prior to the picnic many, of you may have seen the picnic committee’s newsletter recognizing the council for the job it has done at the event in past years. Though there are over 1200 volunteers working the picnic each year, the committee thought enough about our behind the scenes effort to single out the Harvester Knights in a parish wide publication!

Strategic Planning Meeting Set

Details are set for the 2005 strategic planning meeting. In addition to this meeting being a great opportunity for members of the council, as well as directors and officers, to gather and go over long-term goals and projects for the council, the meeting will take the place of the September Director's Meeting.
This year, the strategic planning meeting will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 10:30 a.m. There is not real structure to the meeting, but we hope to have it wrapped up by 4:30 p.m. If you can't make the entire meeting, but can stop by for an hour or so, please do so.

Brother Knights,

It is month two (2) and we are already moving and shaking.
I have received a list of what I affectionately call our "snailmailers" and they will be getting an August printout in the mail in the coming weeks. Please keep in mind these will not be finely edited copies in that they will be printouts of our WebLog.

In regards to our WebLog please look at our new email group that has been set up. We have been working on a group e-mailing list that will originate from our specific organization. We have set up the following group; harvesterkofc@yahoogroups.com See the item below on the blog for info on how to register for the new group. You can keep your info up to date and therefore stay up to date on anything that needs to be distributed and cannot wait until the next meeting.

Don't forget the strategic planning session on Sept. 10. We will gather at 10:30 a.m. (donuts and coffee provided) then go over the direction of our council throughout the day. All members are welcomed and directors and officers are encouraged to attend, if you can't block out the whole afternoon, at least come by for an hour or two to give your input on various projects or areas you want to focus on. There will be more details and a map with directions at the August meeting.

On a very serious note, I would like everyone to keep the Rutch Family in their prayers. Don and Karen Rutch's daughter Katie was in a very serious car accident last week and will be undergoing several surgeriesÂ…

Everyone's Summer is winding down and I would like you to keep in mind during your busy schedule that just one moment of your time can mean the world to another in need. Say a prayer, pay a visit, offer to help.

August Meeting Starts at 7 p.m.

Don't forget that the August meeting will start at 7 p.m. instead of the usual starting time of 7:30. The early start time is due to the installation of new officers and the District Deputy is hopefull that as many officers and members as possible can attend.
Also, don't forget the August meeting will be a 1st Degree, which is scheduled to start at 7:30, so if you know of any prospective members or individuals that you think would make a great Knight, bring them to the August meeting so they can become members of the council.

Council Launches New Yahoo Group

The Harvester Knights of Columbus have created a new group via Yahoo Groups that will allow the leadership of the council to manage contacts and e-mail blasts eaiser and will also allow members to post messages, and stay in touch each with one another.
The main focus for the group though is creating an e-mail list that can be managed by more than one person, so help populate the list by adding your info now:

Thanks to all who have volunteered so far. The next concert to be staffed is August 26th, a Friday night event featuring 50 Cent which will require 4 volunteers (time will be announced).

4th Degree Golf Tourney Set for Sept. 2

Once again the 4th Degree Assembly will be holding a charity golf outing on Friday Sept, 2 at the Warrenton Golf Club.
This year the event will focus on raising funds for seminarians and other vocation related efforts. Plenty of spots are still available, and you can play even if you aren't a 4th Degree (you can play even if you aren't a Knight actually). So round up some friends, co-workers, potential Knights, and get your foursome signed up for the tournament.
Cost includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, a BBQ dinner after the round, drinks on the course, and plenty of fun and good times.

Entertainment Books On Sale

Once again the Harvester Knights of Columbus will be selling the popular Entertainment Books for 2005.
Gene Stark will be coordinating the selling of the books, so if you want to buy one, or a batch, see Gene and he will take care of you.
This is an easy fund raiser for the council, with nearly $500 generated a year from the sale of the books, so make sure you buy yours today and spread the word with your co-workers, friends and family.

Crazy Bowl Slated for Oct. 15

Mark your calendars now, the 2005 Harvester Knights of Columbus Crazy Bowl will take place on Oct. 15.
Once again the event will include three games of bowling, beer and snacks, a silent auction including autographed Blues jerseys, and of course lots of fun and good times.
We will start reserving lanes and spots for the event soon, so round up your group and make sure you don't miss out on this great time.

Mattingly Gets Praise for Children's Book

The son of current District Deputy Tom Mattingly is gaining headlines for his recently published children's book, "Father Like a Tree," that was recently self-published after Tom's son (named Tom also, Tom wrote the book under the pen name of Matthew S. Field), lost his wife to an aggressive form of breast cancer.

Summer Softball Season Stars Aug. 2

The second summer softball season starts Tuesday, August 2 at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex in O’Fallon.
The complex is on TR Hughes Blvd, north of 70 and just south of the TR Hughes Ballpark. We are playing on field F. There are two teams once again.
The Breneman team plays at 7:30 & the Malone team plays at 8:30. Schedules will be handed out at this first game.
If unable to play CALL YOUR CAPTAIN well in advance of game day. You will note there are many on the roster however there are many absences scheduled already so don't assume that they will have enough players without you. See everyone on Tuesday!

New Grand Knight Eager To Start Tenure

Brother Knights,
First of all I would like to thank each and every one of you for expressing your faith in me by electing me as the Grand Knight of y(our) council. No that wasn’t a typographical error your council is our council and vice versa. I am damn proud to be sitting here typing this first of many newsletter articles for your informative entertainment.

As my first message to you I want you to think of this as an open invitation from here on out that I want you to get involved. I am not just talking about work. I am talking about the fun as well. We are constantly looking for more ways to get y(our) council together for the purpose of having fun. Come out to our director’s meeting (everyone in the council is welcome to attend and give input).

Sometimes it just takes a fresh face and a new idea and we are off and running with it. Director’s meetings are held the first Monday of every month. Unless otherwise given ample notice the meetings are held at the Cottleville Hall at 7:30 p.m. Come out and join us.

Tom Mattingly, our Worthy District Deputy, has planned an evening at the St. Charles Council hall for the installation of officers in our district. Unfortunately I am unable to attend but would encourage anyone who would like to attend this evening of dinner and dancing with their spouse or significant other to please contact me as soon as possible so that I may provide you information on how to get tickets for this event. Harvester will plan a small ceremony of the installation of officers soon and will announce the particulars as they further develop.

Summer is a slow time for us as a council but a busy time for your families. I would like to close this letter to you by saying we do still have Riverport (UMB Pavilion) events and select Family Arena Events. If you get an email from either Dave Meglio or John Breneman they would greatly appreciate a response (yes or no) so that they can have more time themselves to spend with their families.

Breneman Honored as Knight of the Year

The June council meeting was packed with major events. In addition to it being the final meeting for Grand Knight Meglio, (members of the council showed their gratitude for Dave by showing up with their sweater vests on, some custom made that night), but it was also a perfect time to honor longtime KofC member John Breneman as the Harvester KofC Knight of the Year.

JB was presented with a statue of order founder Fr. McGivney and kind words, and some ribbing, were said about JB from Meglio, Deputy Grand Knight Dan Breneman and Chancellor Kevin Smith.

The award was well deserved for one of the council's most active and unsung members. Congrats John and we are all grateful to have you as part of our council.

July UMB Update

We have five events in late July and early August which will need staffing.

Thursday, July 21st is Avril Lavigne, Saturday, July 26th is Journey, Sunday, July 31st is Sugar Water Festival????, Saturday, August 6th is Three Doors Down and Tuesday, August 9th is Motley Crue.

To date we have earned over $3,000 working 10 concerts. I am pleased that 43 different people have worked at least one shift. Special thanks to the Steinlage’s. John & Sheila have worked 6 shifts between them! THANK YOU!

2005 State Softball Tourney Fun Time Again

Once again the Harvester Knights participated in the State KofC Softball tourney, held the last weekend in June at the Rainbow softball complex in Columbia, MO.
This year the council had two teams participate, one in the over-35 qualifier division and one in the Open Non-Qualifier Division. Both teams went 1-1 on the Saturday of the tournament but were unable to continue their ride in the tournament with Sunday loses.
The only thing that came close to matching the play on the field was the fun and good times had by the players and their family and friends off the field. The council might be looking for a new hotel for the 2006 tournament though after some run ins with hotel management.
The council was unsuccessful in its bid to host the 2006 tournament in O'Fallon at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex after a surprise bid was put in by the Columbia Council to once again host the tournament. The Harvester Council only put the bid in for the tournament because they had been informed by many state-level leaders that no one wanted to host the tournament in 2006.

Scholarship Winners Announced

We awarded two $500 dollar scholarships on Friday May 27th at the J and A 8th grade graduation.
The winners were Shannon Lampkin and Danny Hunkins. The teachers and the principal assisted again this year to help make the selection of deserving students.

Brothers,

Two years ago next month I took the job as Grand Knight of the Harvester Council. I stepped into the shoes of a lot of great guys that I respected and admired. I was a nervous wreck the 1st time I ran a meeting, trying to make sure that I provided you something meaningful each time we got together was hard work. I tried to draw upon all the things that I had learned from the Grand Knights of the past. I remember Bob Gragnani who was the GK when I first joined the Knights and how he was so inspirational to me when it came helping the Care Service or the No-Hunger Holiday. Guys like him set a standard for the way a council should be run. I remember how calm cool and collected Tom Shadrach always was whenever we would run into a bump in the road and how he would always say, "everything will work out, you’ll see" and it always did. How darn organized Eric Smith was and as my predecessor, he got me off on the right foot and was always there to answer any question that I had. These guys did an unbelievable job as GK, and I want to use this moment to let them know how much I appreciate their leadership.


I also want to thank a number of other guys. 1st I would like to thank all of the directors who worked with me for the past two years. For putting up with all of my hair brained ideas and who were patient enough to listen to them no matter how off the wall they were. I would like to thank Kevin Smith and Dan Breneman for their support and friendship. You guys are the best and I will be there to support you as you begin your terms as GK and DGK. I want to thank Gene Stark for doing a fantastic job as Financial Secretary. He quietly gets the job done and never looks for recognition. I would like to thank Craig Lalumandier for having the hardest last name to spell and for doing and impeccable job as secretary. Thanks goes to Virgil Beer and Kenny Boone for always having something tasty to eat at the meetings. Their job has a special place in my heart because it was the first job that I did when I joined the Knights. I would like to extend thanks to all the guys who are involved in the degree teams and because of your efforts; you make the Knights a unique and special organization. To the guys who are the membership directors, Tom O’leary and Jim Radi, these men understand that new members are the lifeblood of an organization like the Knights. Special thanks goes to Kevin Smith & Mark Laux for helping us take our council into the electronic era with the Web Site and the Blog (Web Log).

To the guys who make the council work, they do the Family Arenas, the UMB Pavilions, the No-Hunger Holidays, Adapt a Family, Tootsie Roll, and all the other events that we do over a year’s time.

Family Camp Outing Approaching

The weekend of June 3rd, 4th and 5th will be upon us soon. The weather has been great! Warm days and cool nights make for fantastic camping. I hope everyone can attend this year's event. Its sure to be as much fun as last years. Remember to pass the word to all Knights and or family members. Attached are the directions to the farm. Hope to see you all real soon.

If you missed last year’s event, you surely don’t want to miss this one!
There is more than enough space for any kind of camper, RV, and or tent set-up.
As last year, all those interested in joining this year’s festivities are urged to R.S.V.P., the reason for this is to make arrangements for porta potties and for Saturday’s joint meal meat purchase. This is not a requirement!! just a recommendation. We want to have enough for everyone.

For Saturday’s group meal we are asking everyone who attends to bring a favorite dish to share. It can be a warm dish, cool dish, dessert, or appetizer. We have the facilities to warm or keep cool anything you bring. Remember, there is a full kitchen, microwave, coffee maker, stove/oven, freezer and 2 refrigerators. There are 6 beds, a fold out couch and plenty of floor space for those who don’t have camping gear or for the ones who need a little more comfort! Just bring your favorite blanket and pillow!

There is 1 modern bathroom facility available for the ladies and as last year, porta potties and outside shower for the men.

To get there:
Take Hwy 44 West to exit 159 (Waynesville), go right, in approx. 3 miles you will hit a stop light which is Hwy 17, make a right and go approx. 11 miles until you are in the town of Crocker. Pass through town until you get to JCT. “U”, turn left on to “U” go approx.
1000 ft. to the first road on right which is Bluejay. Turn right on Bluejay and travel approx. 2 miles to entrance of the farm. Look for signs marked “KofC” entrance is on the left.

Care Service Dedicates New Senior Center

A contingent of members from the Harvester Knights of Columbus was among those in attendance in Warrenton on Tuesday May 24 for the dedication of the new Senior Village which was built and funded through the efforts of the Sts. J&A Care Service.

The project is a joint effort between the Care Service, Catholic Charities of St. Louis, the Cardinal Ritter Institute and the St. Louis regional HUD office.

Purschke Wins Poker Tourney

A fellow Knight, from the Union Missouri council, took home top honors at the innagural Harvester Knights Poker Knight Texas Hold 'Em tourney on Saturday at the Harvester Lion's Hall.
Joe beat out 56 other players to take home top honors and the prize of $345. Of the 8 players who advanvced to the final table, the Harverst Knights had 5 members in it.
Thanks to all who showed up and we will be doing the event again, maybe next time we can get over 100 players to play?
